Don't go there
It's Sunday, family day. Everybody cannot wait for grandma's lunch. Usually yellow rice, chicken and vegetables. I only eat grandma's vegetables. We run around, maybe break a thing or two. If we are lucky, we go home with gifts. God bless our grandparents.
Ayah is running and I am chasing after. We approach grandpa's door. The one room that is off limits to us for reasons we don't know. We can run into grandma's room, no problem. But grandpa, we are not allowed. I tried asking Aunty Fatima if she has ever been there and she told me not to bother her with questions.
Ayah is approaching grandpa's door, and I think she will continue running into the courtyard. It is a sunny day and everyone is in the backyard, waiting for the food. Ayah stops by the door and then listens to it. I stop, frozen.
'What are you doing?' I whisper.
'I am going in.' She replies.
She opens the door and goes in. I wait patiently, scared watching out for somebody coming. I knock on the door as I have this bad feeling. Grandpa approaches and I run into the courtyard, he opens his door and lets out a scream.
